ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

It's green! 1750 words today!
Totally newsworthy. ;)

Today is a great day! ♥
And because I tend to complain a lot I have to tell you about it. Yes.

  • It's warm and sunny and I survived the first of the four mechanics exams (and therefore the fifth exam altogether). And I survived quite well to boot. =)

  • Aaaaand I got a raise. Actually they acknowledged my BSc so it's more like a retroactive promotion (student assistant to research assistant!), but what I really care about is: more money! 16 € more per month. =)

  • Aaaaaaand Chinese buffet. - I probably won't be able to eat anything in the next few days. Yum. =)

Spend the weekend not working on that damn presentation about Auger Electron Spectroscopy. That's how visits of mother-in-law-to-bes go. A lot of talking, a lot of laughing, no working and cultivating a headache from hell.
So, what this all amounts to is: Yeah.
Also, I'm so going to make a complete and utter fool of myself. Tuesday.

Not that I have a mind for work when I'm alone because I'm slightly obsessed... with children's TV. Children's TV starring sparkling gay boy bands.
I don't even know how to justify it. Okay, they're sparkly! And the women in this show are plain awesome! But... Yeah, no justification, I'm in love and I'm pretty sure it's escapism.

Also, I'm writing fanfiction.

As in: There's finished fic on my hard drive and plot bunnies running around in my head. They're having one hell of a good time. (See also: "Damn, the last time that happened was the early One Piece days.")
I'm way to embarrassed to post any because the German ones suck ...and the English ones suck as well because it's me writing in English. Yeah.
And I'd like to add: I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR STUPID OBSESSIONS!

Aaaaand I'm off to the beautiful, sparkly world of... Auger Electrons. Yes!

P.S.: Women's football world cup! ...I'm really not that interested because football only gets to me when it's relegation battles which my team always loses but... FootieFox!
I'm pathetic but I suppose you've figured by now.

Decisions

Today I finally decided to buy a new graphics tablet. - So I did.

Then I decided to start working. Like finish this paper or read my lecture notes or something else that makes me look like a good student. - So far I tried to make measurement results make sense by staring at them. And read lots of Inception fanfic.

And doing this and realizing my inability to write comments gets worse because of language difficulties made me decide to continue this journal in English. - So I... do.

So just to tell you something:
My father called just to ask me to bring Doctor Who Season 3 next time. And throw Torchwood in while I'm at it.

...
My father wants to watch Torchwood although he already knows this show is mainly about Jack Harkness making out with other men (it is as far as I recall).
At this pace I think I'll beta his first slash fic in about... five months.
And now I can't decide whether writing slash is a better (as in less horrifying) hobby for a 50-something father-of-three than collecting and nursing spiders... *drop*

"Our next exam was science. Mrs. Tesla told us we had to mix chemicals until we succeeded in making something explode. Tyson was my lab partner. His hands were way too big for the tiny vials we were supposed to use. He accidentally knocked a tray of chemicals off the counter and made an orange mushroom cloud in the trash can.
After Mrs. Tesla evacuated the lab and called the hazardous waste removal squad, she praised Tyson and me for being natural chemists. We were the first ones who'd ever aced her exam in under thirty seconds."

Neue Ergebnisse meiner Literaturrecherche:

In the BBC television science fiction series „Doctor Who“, the inside of the TARDIS could be considered an example of hyperspace behaviour. The fact that the TARDIS has more „volume“ in the inside, demonstrates somewhat unrealistically at least one property of a hyper-cuboid.

aus D.J. Cumberland and R.J. Crawford – The Packing of Particles

P.S.: „The Peas of Buffon“ ist ein Experiment, mit dem man anhand von Erbsen die Anordnung von Kugeln in dichten Packungen untersucht hat. Wenig spektakulär, bereits überholt, aber ernsthaft? - The Peas of Buffon. Es klingt wie eine Doctor Who-Folge. (Und ich will sie sehen!)
